Producer Information: Raúl Pérez
Raúl Pérez, based in the Bierzo region of northwestern Spain, is a winemaker whose roots run deep in the local viticultural tradition, having grown up in a family that has cultivated vines for generations. He established his own label after years working at Castro Ventosa, his family’s estate, and quickly became known for championing indigenous grape varieties like Mencía and Godello. Pérez’s approach centers on minimal intervention and site-specific expression, often using whole-cluster fermentation and old oak barrels to highlight the unique terroir of Bierzo’s slate soils. Beyond his flagship Ultreia range, he crafts expressive Albariño from Rías Baixas under the Sketch label and collaborates on projects such as La Vizcaína de Vinos, which explores single-vineyard bottlings from different villages within Bierzo. His focus remains firmly on authentic Spanish wines that reflect their origin with clarity and depth.
